Trip report
A six-day delegation to Taipei, timed to COMPUTEX and InnoVEX. Mark Duval led it alongside Chiling Tong of National ACE, with economic development officials, civic leaders, and technology executives from across Central Texas. The Asian Chamber of Commerce of Houston, the University of Houston, the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation, and the Buda Economic Development Corporation joined.
The week ran on three tracks. Government briefings with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside the trade agencies TEEMA, CIECA, and IEAT. Manufacturing meetings with MediaTek, Inventec, Pegatron, and Compal, including a tour of Inventec's AI server facility and an ecosystem briefing at Hsinchu Science Park. Capital and startup sessions with Taiwania Capital, Plug and Play Taiwan, and the Epoch Foundation's Garage+ program.
Three things followed. Plug and Play Taiwan and Garage+ opened a pipeline for Taiwanese startups looking at Austin. Adanvis committed to connecting GAACC with partners across its Taiwan network for semiconductor and AI collaboration. A panel for University of Texas and National Taiwan University alumni started work on a STEM talent pipeline that the Chamber is still following up on.
